The role played by social media in the migration-related decision- making process in the case of international students of Charles University.

The last decades have seen a growing number of international students. States and institutions all around the world are trying to attract students from abroad. Nowadays, to reach the target group they are putting information online. It is foreseeable since the Internet has deeply penetrated our daily life. However, there is still a lack of understanding of how aspiring international students use online sources, and how these sources influence their decision to study abroad. This thesis aims to provide up-to-date information on the influence of social media on the decision-making process of aspiring international students. This study was conducted with qualitative interviews with international students of Charles University. After the data analysis, it became apparent that even though social media does not have a major impact on one's choice to study abroad, it is an important medium that helps one to maintain and create personal networks and disseminate people's influence. Therefore, one can conclude that social network sites facilitate student migration. Interpersonal relationships and social network in terms of stay in foreign culture

The main subject of this Diploma Thesis is a description of psychological aspects of staying in foreign culture with focus on interpersonal and group processes and their influence and importance for the stay in foreign culture. Central theme of interpersonal relationships and social networks formation is discussed in terms of stay in foreign culture with regards to new forms of electronic communication and its characteristics. This Diploma Thesis focuses on social networks formation and its process and dynamics in electronic communication environment in contrast to real environment. Furthermore, it applies to interpersonal relationship changes, maintaining original far-distant relationships and formation new ones through electronic communication when being in foreign culture. Empirical part of thesis concerns a study of a degree of psychological and sociocultural adaptation with emphasis on electronic communication and its influence of interpersonal relationships and social networks when being abroad. Empirical part of thesis consists of quantitative data analysis. Communication analysis and proposal of the Study in Prague project

The Master´s Thesis Communication analysis and proposal of the Study in Prague project is focused on the issue of communication to international students. Study in Prague is a project of five Prague public universities, whose common goal is to increase the number of international students in their foreign language programs through joint marketing communications. The goal of this thesis follows the effort of this project as it aims to analyse its current communication and to propose its potential changes and improvements. In order to choose an appropriate communication, the thesis is applying a situation analysis, SWOT analysis, Benchmarking and an own field survey in the form of Focus Group. In the proposal, there is the emphasis on digital communications, which is the most appropriate tool for the given target group of young students.
Culture Shock on the example of international students in Prague

This thesis covers the problem of culture shock that is nowadays becoming more and more popular, since our world is the world of both extensive and intensive integration and globalization. The aim of the work is to analyze how much international students in Prague are affected by culture shock. The first part of the thesis provides the deep information about the concept of culture shock. The second part of the work comprises the survey which was done by the mean of the questionnaire. The results are evaluated and presented in the particular chapter together with evaluations and inferences. The research shows that there are certain patterns of behavior that can be seen in particular cases regarding culture shock.
The language management of Russian-speaking university students and graduates in its socioeconomic context

This thesis is devoted to the language management of Russian-speaking university students and graduates in the socioeconomic context of the Czech Republic. The first, theoretical section, is based on the results of previous studies as well as statistical data. It delimits the concepts of language management and Language Management Theory describes the types of language management, and explains its processual character. The second, empirical section of the thesis, is devoted to a qualitative research study based on semi-structured interviews with 10 speakers of Russian as a first or second language who were studying or who had studies at universities in the Czech Republic. The aim of the research was to gain up-to-date information on respondents' subjective understanding of their position on the Czech labor market. The results reveal connections between language, communicative and socio- cultural (including socio-economic) management thus connect issues of language competence and linguistic repertoires and the socio-economic position of Russian-speaking university students and graduates in the Czech Republic.
